Mohawk Girls Grade Level Teams
Girls who have experience playing Soccer or Basketball will easily pick up the sport of Lacrosse, as many of the concepts are very similar.
In March, we will hold some indoor practices at the Branchburg Sports Complex to shake the cobwebs off the teams. Once we can get outside, we'll have 2-3 practices a week until games start in April, and then 1 or 2 practices depending on the number of games that week. A typical season is for 12-15 games in April and May. We play locally at Bundt Park, and most teams are within 30-45 minutes travel when we are on the road.
Grades 2/3/4 - No experience necessary, shortened field, 7 vs 7 games, goalies optional in league. Beginner skills are taught, catching, passing & shooting along with basic play strategy.
Grades 5/6 - No experience necessary, Full field, 12 vs 12 games, 6th graders have optional programs to play up during the rest of the year. Most players join the game in 5th or 6th grade. At this age new players will still have plenty of opportunity to learn the basics, and opponents are generally at similar level of play. Typically there are 1 or 2 one-day tournaments during the Spring Season
Grades 7/8 - Generally some previous experience is perferred, but it's never too late to start and the Mohawks are all about helping a new player learn Lacrosse. Full field, 12 vs 12 games. Typically there are 1 or 2 one-day tournaments during the Spring Season.
Optional Fall & Winter league play opportunities and tournaments will be offered as well for 6-8th grade players wanting more play time.
